In keeping with FED’s mission, our design celebrates the potential of urban agriculture and the importance of beautiful public spaces. Six throne-like structures (or ‘lamellas’) are arranged in a circle, providing shade and seating and encouraging the public to linger at Ship Point. Fast-growing hops will climb the latticework of the lamellas, a living and dynamic element of the design that will offer a new experience for the public at each encounter. The central focal point is a series of benches under a canopy of Owari mandarin trees. Interlaced sails stretch over the entire installation, a nod to the nautical nature of the site.
While the lamellas can be easily moved from the site, they have also been designed to fit together and encircle the benches and planters. As such, they could be left to surround the festival stages during events.
